Cancerous Womb - Austrian Basement EP

They Say :- Cancerous Womb are a Death Metal / Grind band from Edinburgh, Scotland. From it's initial inception in 2005 as a bedroom project, Cancerous Womb bred itself into it's current form whereby four humans of (somewhat) equal mental problems conjoined in order to deliver our own manipulated, twisted style of relentless Death Metal.

Musically Cancerous Womb blends old school elements of DM along with a slime of technical influence. Idealistically we focus on relinquishing boundaries of acceptable lyrical content.

Everything, and everyone, is fair game. If you don't like that we can wank into a cup for you instead.

We Say :- If you've made it this far, you're obviously not offended by the band's name. 'Cancerous Womb' kind of lets you know there will be no mentions of fluffy bunny rabbits or little puppies in this release. Well, unless the puppies are in a sack, in a canal, with a brick for company. Even then they'd probably have to have been skinned alive first to be suitably unpleasant to be a lyrical concept for these Scottish degenerates.

The three tack selection of exquisite bad taste kicks off with V.I.Paedophile, which starts with a predictably evil backwards intro before things start going the right way round and we're in the presence of some excellent Death Metal. It's not all single paced or dull, and there is actually a fair bit going on here musically, more than you may expect.

Next up is 'Up To My Nuts In Guts' where the musical ability the band try so hard to hide breaks through in places. There is some inspired riffage in here as they grind their way through another ode to unacceptability, and it's really rather good.

The EP closes with the title track, 'Austrian Basement' which has a more (dare I say it) progressive feel about it. It starts of chugging, then gets angry, Then gets thrashy, then gets weird, before going back to angry. We love the Guitar solo, I can just imagine Mike asking 'I say, Can I do one now, oh come on chaps, let's have a solo'.
